If your RV has been in storage all winter, it’s not ready for your first trip of the spring just yet. There are a few de-winterization steps you need to take before hitting the road. Keep reading to see what should be on your spring checklist. If you have any questions, reach out to our helpful team at The Outpost RV and we’ll help you out. Wash Your Camper

The first step to getting your rig ready for the spring is to wash it. Dust and grime can accumulate during storage, so you’ll want to give your camper a good cleaning. The longer you leave the dirt, the harder it will be to clean later. Before you rinse the camper, you should check its integrity. Make sure there aren’t any cracking seams or worn-away sealant on the roof. Inspect the sidewalls and corners for gaps and holes.

Air Out Your RV

Next, you should air out your camper. The air inside is probably stale after a winter spent in storage. Open all of the doors, windows, cabinets, slide-outs, and awnings. This will help to get fresh air flowing through the unit.

While you open everything up, listen for any squeaky hinges that you can address before you hit the road.

Check for Pests

During the winter months, some critters may have made their home in your camper. Inspect your camper for any pests so you can take care of the problem as soon as possible.

Test Appliances

Before you head out on your first adventure of the spring, make sure to check all of your appliances. Nobody wants to be in the middle of a vacation only to find out that their refrigerator is broken!

Inspect the Tires

Next, it’s time to check your vehicle’s tires. After all, your RV isn’t going to go very far with damaged tires. Make sure the tires are inflated to the proper air pressure and ensure that the tread isn’t too worn down and there are no cracks.

Inspect the Battery

You’ll also need to check on your camper’s battery. The harsh winter weather can damage your battery, so make sure there are no cracks and the connections are clean.

Check Fluid Levels

Finally, you’ll want to check the fluid levels. Check the levels of your brake fluids, windshield fluids, antifreeze/coolant fluids, and more. Top off anything that is low. Your RV needs fluids to function properly!
