Cleaning Your Truck Camper
Your truck camper is your perfect companion on the road. It protects you from the elements, takes you on long yet comfortable drives, and keeps you cozy while you are resting. To continue enjoying all these benefits, you need to service it regularly and keep it clean, too. Yes, you can preserve its appeal for years to come by regularly and thoroughly washing it, inside and out. At The Outpost RV in Middlebury, Indiana, we have put together this brief cleaning guide to help you maintain the aesthetics of your camper. We serve our friends from Kalamazoo in Michigan.
Washing the Exterior
The first step is to remove all the dust, dirt and debris that has accumulated on the truck camper. Start using only water to do this so you know that all the residue is gone before you get to scrubbing the areas that need it. Pay attention while you clean the nose because that’s the area that is more prone to attracting bugs on the road. Use a good quality detergent to scrub the surface. A brush with a handle and a microfiber mitt will help in cleaning every nook and cranny.
Rinse the camper thoroughly after you are done scrubbing it. Ensure that you don’t allow the soap to dry on the camper. This can leave unwanted blemishes on the body even after you have washed it using the best quality cleaner.
Polishing the Exterior
Once the exterior of the rig is completely dry, use a good-quality wax to polish it. While it is advisable to use a fiberglass or automotive wax, remember to note the construction of the rig so you avoid using an incompatible product. Rub the wax on the nose and the body of the truck camper to make it shine like new and give it a professional finish.
Owners that regularly drive their camper may need to wax their vehicles more frequently. However, if you use your rig only a few times a year, polishing it once or twice (in a year) should be sufficient to maintain its appeal.
Cleansing the Interior
Wipe all surfaces with a clean and damp cloth, and clean the windows, too. Apply polish on the wooden frames and let them shine like new. Don’t leave out cleaning the furniture and changing the bed linen to refresh the rig completely.
Scrub the kitchen area thoroughly and disinfect the surfaces. This will also be a good time to declutter your rig. Remove all the supplies that have gone bad or expired. Refill the items before you hit the road, again.
If it isn’t a very long trip, you may consider washing the camper once, at the end of the trip. However, if it’s a long distance that you are covering, washing it once while on the road can be a good idea. This will prevent dust and debris from accumulating and damaging the polish.
