The Hoosier State is filled with great opportunities for RVing, which makes sense, since we’re also the home of the world’s RV Capital: Elkhart, Indiana. Since 80% of all RVs produced are made in this state, it makes sense that it’s also a good place to go on RV trips. To help you plan your next weekend jaunt, The Outpost RV has drawn up a list of our top five RV destinations in Indiana. Our dealership is located in Middlebury, conveniently located near many of the great RV factories in the north of our fine state, so we’re bound to have the model you’re seeking.
Lake Haven Retreat (Indianapolis)
Located just south of Indianapolis, this park offers a retreat from the city for campers as well as easy access to all the great activities and attractions that the capital offers. Because of the amenities at the campground, including laundry facilities, bathrooms and showers, an event hall, free cable and complimentary wireless internet, many RV residents stay here full time, but there’s plenty of room for visitors. The sights of Indianapolis are a short drive north on Highway 37, including the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500 race, the Convention Center, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and downtown. Anyone looking to combine a cozy retreat with big city exploration will be right at home at Lake Haven Retreat.
Follow The River RV Resort (Florence)
Snuggled in the far southeast corner of the state, Follow The River RV Resort takes its name from the nearby Ohio River, which is great for fishing, swimming and hiking. The park is open year-round with full hookups and free wifi, along with space for big rigs. A spacious clubhouse is available for campers to use, along with a heated pool, paved biking and walking trails, bathrooms with showers and an RV supply store with ice, wood and snacks available for purchase. A free shuttle offers transport to the nearby Belterra Casino Resort & Spa.
Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort (Santa Claus)
This holiday-themed campground offers year-round camping, but it particularly shines during the winter holidays, owing to its location in the charmingly-named town of Santa Claus. The RV park offers standard, super and deluxe RV sites, along with RV and cabin rentals for visitors without their own RVs. Sites have full hookups and the super and deluxe options offer concrete pads with patios.
The park is great for families, because Santa’s SplashDown WaterPark is right on the campgrounds, along with Blitzen Bay Pool. A shuttle will take visitors to the nearby Holiday World Theme Park & Splashin’ Safari Water Park for more holiday-themed fun. The Holiday World Theme Park has four sections dedicated to the holidays of Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. A number of activities take place at the campground throughout the year, and visitors can venture into the town of Santa Claus to take advantage of the Christmas-themed shopping and dining options there.
Eby’s Pines RV Park & Campground (Bristol)
Nestled in the heart of Indiana’s Amish Country near the town of Shipshewana, Eby’s Pines has been open since 1968, offering a family-owned campsite in a beautiful setting. Full-hookup sites offer plenty of space for RVs of all sizes. Amenities on the campground include an indoor roller rink, a laser tag arena, swimming pools and a playground. The natural setting is beautiful and scenic, providing a peaceful getaway spot for campers to take advantage of fishing and hiking options. Elkhart, the RV capital of the world, is not far away, and it offers the RV/MH Hall of Fame, a heritage museum dedicated to the history of RVs and motorhomes.
Grandpa’s Farm Campground (Richmond)
This RV park in eastern Indiana has been open for 52 years and remains family-owned and operated. A fork of the Whitewater River flows through the campground and serves as a great source of fish. Activities abound at the park, including a heated swimming pool, billiards, arcade games, ping pong, bingo and even church services on Sundays. The beautiful countryside offers plenty of opportunities for bird watching, horseback riding, hiking and more. The town of Richmond has museums, shopping, dining and the Hayes Arboretum, so campers won’t be at a loss for things to do.
